EVERY BOY'S DREAM
EVERY boy dreams of racing along a track in a speedy vehicle, and this is exactly what Liam Hodgson has achieved.

The 11 year-old has been Minimoto racing for two months and recently took part in the Scottish Championship.

Ten boys his age joined in the competition at Raceland, outside Edinburgh, on Saturday June 7.
Liam, from Bullwood, has always loved to watch Super Biking on television and video, and it was this that sparked his desire to race.

He had never had the opportunity until he heard about Matthew’s Mini- motos, a racing club for over 8s held in Dalmarnock, Glasgow.

Liam has been attending sessions once a fortnight, for a total of 10 times.

His mother Pat was often worried about this activity, as she was very aware how dangerous and risky it could be.

However, she discovered that Matthew’s Minimotos was very well controlled with each of the staff being safety concious first aiders. Despite the many minor knocks and bruises Liam had after his first couple of times, it did not knock his confidence and he is now very able and races with no injuries at all.

The staff at Matthew’s Minimotos, by this time, could clearly see the confidence that Liam had and could see how good he was.

As a result, he and three other boys from the club were asked to compete in the Scottish Championship.

Liam said: “Saturday June 7 was the first time I had been on a real race track and I was competing with a greater number of people than I am used to.

“After a minor set back in the first race, I came 6th in the second, which was a marvellous achievement for me and a great confidence booster.

“I thoroughly enjoy Minimoto racing and I am eagerly waiting to get my own bike.

“I love the speed on the bikes and the adreneline rush that I get from racing.”

Pat is very happy with her son’s progress and is hoping that he will enter a race at the end of the month.

She said: “He lives for it. He can’t wait till he’s racing again.”
